Our final meeting for 2009 will be held on Tuesday 24th November, 6-8pm. Rather than a single topic, we will have a series of short talks on a variety of current technologies.

Google AppEngine for Java
From October our meetings will be moving to Tuesdays. The topic for this meeting on Tuesday 13th October, 6-8pm will be “Google AppEngine for Java”. Our presenter will be Gianni Mariani from Google. The meeting will be in the Computer Science Tea Room 3.224.

Wireshark: Viewing your application from the network
The topic for this meeting on Monday 17th August, 6-8pm will be “Wireshark: Viewing your application from the network”. Our presenter will be Martin Visser from HP. The meeting will be in the Computer Science Tea Room 3.224.

Martin will present a tutorial specifically focused on using Wireshark, an open-source packet sniffer or network analyser. The presentation will aim to help application developers use Wireshark to assist them in understanding how their application impacts on the network and is impacted by the network and associated resources. Wireshark can provide both an understand of the protocol flow, being able to see and interpret the conversation, but also assist in characterizing performance parameters that are pertinent to the application users experience. The aim is helping application developers make apps that use networks work better.
Martin is also involved in the South Coast Linux Users Group. Check out their upcoming meetings.

June Meeting - Grails Web Development
The topic for this meeting on Monday 1st June, 6-8pm will be rapid web development with Grails. Our presenter will be Michael Lawler from Selera. The meeting will be in the Computer Science Tea Room 3.224.

Michael will be covering:
- intro to groovy the language
- intro to grails the web app framework and its java technology underpinnings
- building a slick user contact database web application from groovy/grails from scratch in 25 mins
As usual there will be lots of goodies to give away too.
May iJug - JavaFX
Angela Caicedo from Sun Microsystems will be speaking to us about JavaFX on Monday May 4th 6-8pm.
We will be meeting in classroom 3.121 (Note change of room). Pizza will be served from 6-6.30pm. It would be very helpful if you could RSVP to Andrew Zahra by Friday 1st May so we can get the catering right.
Angela will be giving us an in depth session about JavaFX, JavaFX mobile, Developing JavaFX using the Netbeans platform. There will be lots of demos to show of JavaFX capabilities.
There will also be some fabulous giveaways from Sun. You will have to come to find out what they are!
